Haircuts and projects

First things first.  Zoey cut her hair. At school. Both pigtails. A little on the front and back too.  What am I going to do with her?  To be honest, it doesn't look that bad when it's down, it blends in quite nicely.  Maybe she's got a future in fixing hair? The note says "Zoey decided to give herself a haircut while we were making a flip-book.  Mrs. Hodge"  Haha This is what she came home like:

Lately I have been crazy about Pinterest.  It's this awesome website that has tons of pictures of stuff people like.  You click on the picture and it shows you how to make or what to get whatever is in the picture.  I absolutely love it!  Here are my boards.  It is so much fun to look around at all these amazing things people make or bake or sew.  Anyway, I'm leading up to my project I made on Friday! I made this pillow slip-cover.  Now, remember, I haven't sewed since high school and this is the first time I've really used my sewing machine.  It took me all afternoon and I'm half-way pleased with it. Here's some pics:
My big helper talking to me while I sewed

The pillow I was making the cover for

The back

The back (ignore the goofy stitches)

The inside showing the gatherings

The finished product!
I messed up, I was supposed to sew one flap underneath and I sewed them so they match up.  That made the pillow too big and baggy, I need to find a little bit bigger pillow and it will be perfect! I'm really pleased with how the gatherings came out and it really was easy to do.  It's not too bad for being my first big sewing project. I'm planning on making Zoey and Charlotte's Halloween costumes; they are going to be Little Bo Peep and her Lost Sheep!  I'm getting excited and I also have some fun Christmas gift ideas I think I could do.

Next thing I found was this fun coloring activity, I also made these foam bath activities. One set is flowers and outside things, and the other is words so we can work on building sentences.  They were a big hit with Zoey she loves putting them up on the shower walls.

I met another stay at home mom from my street the other day and she's been walking with me in the mornings.  It's been nice having some company!  Her husband had a volunteer thing last night and she wanted to help so I watched her kids, 2 and 4, for a couple hours.  We had lots of fun!  I figured it was the perfect opportunity to set up this coloring mat, I've had the supplies for a while.  Here's the mat:

It's a shower curtain from The Dollar Tree!  I drew in the town part and let the kids color on it with crayons.  It was really fun! They took turns coloring and driving cars on it and playing.  Zoey got up this morning and colored on it some more.  I wish I could leave it all the time but the dog has already poked a couple holes in it with his claws. Here's one where they colored on it a bit:
I had fun too, I have to be honest! Haha I can't think of any paper or anything that is that size that you can buy for a dollar.  It was money well spent!

First day of school!

Well, it's here! The first day finally arrived! Thankfully we all woke up on time and got out the door, we are working on getting our morning routine down but so far it's going really well.  Funny enough Charlotte is the only crabby one!  She is NOT impressed that I have to wake her up and get her ready but by the time we get out the door she's back to her smiley self.

Her poor backpack is as big as her!  She loves it, thank you Nana for the best backpack in the world!  She can't get over that the lunchbox clips right onto the front.

This is the jet in front of her school.  They are the Dyess Jets and from all the paperwork and coloring pages they are very much into it.
We made it! Here she is in front of the door to the school.
She got settled in at her seat and put on her name tag.  She is sitting next to a little boy that she went to Pre-K with so I'm glad she knew somebody.  She makes friends pretty easily so I'm not too worried! I really hope they get the teacher situation straightened out, I don't want her to have to flip-flop between rooms all the time.
Here's sister waiting on Zoey to get out of school. We walked to the school again just like we had that morning, only difference was, it was now 103 degrees! HOT! If the breeze wasn't so hot I think it would be better but it just takes your breath away.
Yay! She had a great first day and had lots of stuff to tell us.  She was pretty happy to hear that she could go again the next day.  We took off walking back to the car. We walked, and walked, and walked, and Zoey got tired...
She sure wouldn't let us carry her backpack for her though!
Daddy finally helped her out on the last stretch.  He didn't say much on the walk back until we got to the car and all he said was, "Tomorrow, we're driving."  Can't argue with the man! Haha
Of course we had to got get an ice cream cone to celebrate the first day!  We're so proud of our big kindergartner!

Catching up

I haven't really posted for a few days on what we have been doing around here so I figured I better catch up! We made it back from Kansas and that Tuesday was Beau's 26th birthday! Happy birthday Daddy!  Coincidentally there was a pool party for Beau's squadron so we loaded up and went at the last minute.  It was HOT!  Zoey and Beau got some swimming done and Charlotte dozed all stretched out then we had some food and left.  It was so hot the seat belts were on FIRE when we got back in the car, it's awful!

I love this one, Charlotte gives her this look often

All I could see was that floppy hat bobbing around the pool

Speaking of birthdays, what do you think about Beau's b-day cake? Haha, it turned out awful!  The cake stuck in the pan and the frosting was too runny but you know what, it tasted amazing.  Beau said it was the best cake he's ever had, but I think he was just being nice, it made me feel better though!

I redeemed myself a little by making this jell-o dessert.  It has 8 layers and was really fun to make even though it took me all day to finish it!  Zoey helped me make it and she was so proud of how it turned out.  I had to keep rotating the dish because I didn't realize how very uneven our fridge is.  It tasted good, that's all that matters! :)

We finally had some rain the other day, I'm not sure how much but it rained for a good 4 or 5 hours.  It was amazing!  The day before we had Zoey out riding her bike and the sky was getting super dark, we were hoping for it to rain and rain for days.  We still need it!  Can I brag some more that my big girl can ride her bike?  She does so great and for being so prissy and careful about stuff she has no fear on that bike, it scares me half the time!  She loves riding back and forth and she's so proud of herself.

Tonight we had Meet the Teachers at Zoey's school, it was very informative to say the least.  Turns out there are 110 kindergartners and 4 classrooms. 4!  The principle said they are hoping to open another classroom soon.  I hope they do, the class sizes are 27,28 kids to 1 teacher. Zoey will rotate teachers every 2 days for the first 2 weeks and they will put kids with the best teacher that fits them.  She should have a permanent teacher by the third week.  We met her teacher for now Mrs. Sanders but I didn't pay too much attention since she might not have her anyway.  I am so thankful that Zoey loves people and adapts to situations well so I won't have to worry about her at all.  She had a great time touring the school and we ran into our neighbor and her older daughter showed us around.  The school was packed with people but it seems really nice.

She was in awe of all the books in the library, even though the only shelves in the picture are empty... ha!

Charlotte really wasn't in the mood and promptly took a nap :)
Lastly, the other day I was telling Beau there are never any dang pictures of me!  He told me he doesn't want any pictures of him so he'll start taking more.  He decided to have a little photo shoot as I was trying to load up the car and talk on the phone.  I won't post the one he took of my ass! Haha

Crap

One of my favorite things about the internet and blogging is reading all of these different blogs that are out there.  Thanks to my friend Priscilla I was introduced to some and then I just went from there.  I love food blogs, mommy blogs, craft blogs, funny blogs, just fun stuff to read.  I have been following Crap at my Parent's House for a while and I kept teasing my mom that I was going to start taking pictures from around her house and send them in, well this year I finally did!

I never dreamed they would actually post it, there are so many coming in and I was so pleased to see it up today!  I burst out laughing the second I saw it, here's the post.

I have to say thank you to my mom for being such a good sport, she encouraged me to put this up there.  Hope you find it as funny as I did!

Oceans

I ran across this the other day on Netflix and it's rated "G" so I figured it would be a great movie for me and my girl.  She loves turtles and dolphins and all things ocean-y so why not?  For being a "G" there was quite a lot of things getting eaten.  I know it's a fact of life, but wow, they were showing the cutest seals swimming along and BAM!  Here came a great white shark!  Zoey didn't seem to mind and when I said something she said "What Mom, sharks gotta eat too."  I guess she's right!

During the movie she kept saying really funny things when I would ask her what something was and she would make up names for the creatures.  There were 'horn-hogs' and 'red-skin rays' and 'sparkly fish' and 'whale-y sharks'.  Then she looked at me and said, "Ya know, I've never seen this movie but I read the book.  It was ok."  I laughed so hard!  It sounded like such an adult thing to say.  About half-way through she was done and said "I don't want to watch this movie anymore it's just not cute.  I only like cute movies because I am so cute!"  Guess I better find something else! Haha

Kindy-garden enrollment

 No!
 Say it aint' so!
No way is my big girl starting Kindergarten!
 Seems it was just yesterday...
Wait, she still does that face!
 Couldn't be prouder...
 of our big girl!
 We love you to pieces...
 our little Zoey-bug.
 (She does that face too)

We would never catch you making messes like this anymore!  (Thank goodness)

We got Zoey all enrolled on Monday, it was nice and easy since she went to Pre-K last year we just had to copy some stuff and fill out one paper.  She was a little confused since she thought she was starting school that day and was disappointed she didn't get to meet her teacher or play.  They are having a parent meeting and meet and greet on the 18th so we are looking forward to that.  I'm excited for this school year to start, she learned so much last year, and I know she's going to do great!  Well, she better, because I am NOT homeschooling! Haha
